The International Trade Centre launched the SheTrades initiative to create an ecosystem of integrated solutions that empower women economically through greater integration in trade and investment.

A Plan: To work with partners including governments, private sector, international organizations, and others to catalyze and expand trade opportunities for women entrepreneurs. Through country-based activities, SheTrades enables women entrepreneurs to improve the quality of their products and services.

A Digital Platform: Women entrepreneurs can find trade partners through facilitated business/investment linkages and on a free-to-use digital platform, There have been more than 10 SheTrades country launches where governments have embraced the initiative and adapted it to local context to ensure that women have a greater role in their economies. More than 250 corporations and institutions have signed up to support the initiative.

Description of Duties/Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the ITC SheTrades Communications and Partnerships Focal Point, the selected candidate will:

  • Support in the social media management of the ITC SheTrades Facebook page and corporate social media posts.
  • Develop digital social media assets such as social media cards, GIFs, short stories, and videos for high-level events and global campaigns.
  • Support in the development of a WordPress website, which will include the following tasks:
  1. Support in the coordination of gathering relevant information and materials for the website.
  2. Support in testing and providing feedback on the alpha and subsequent versions of the website.
  3. Support in the translation and coordination of translations for the French and Spanish versions of the WordPress website.
  • Provide communications support for high-level events, including the following tasks:
  1. Design roll-up banners, posters, and other print materials for in-person events.
  2. Write web stories, success stories, and press releases.
  3. Write speeches, speaking remarks, and edit concept notes.

Requirements

Education: either:

a) Be enrolled in the second or final academic year of the first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or

b) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or

c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation.

In one of the following fields or similar: Communications, English, Marketing, International Development, Sustainability, or related fields.

Work Experience

  • Experience of using Canva, Adobe Illustrator and related digital design tools.
  • Previous experience or internships in communications, social media management, graphic design, events planning, and French/Spanish to English translations would be an asset.
  • Previous experience developing websites using WordPress is desirable.

Languages and Skills:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Knowledge of Spanish and French is desirable.
  • Ability to learn quickly and ask questions.
  • Organized and reliable.

Learning Elements:

  • Gain meaningful work experience in the area of trade-related technical assistance aimed to expand their academic, professional and personal learning;
  • Gain experience in the work of ITC and deepen knowledge and understanding of ITC’s goals, mission and their concrete implementation;
  • Gain knowledge and exposure on strategic communications and partnerships building;
  • Participate in events and activities related to women’s economic empowerment;
  • Acquire hands-on experience in developing a digital platform.

Expectations:

On completion of the assignment, the intern is expected to:

  • Understand the importance of branding and how to effectively communicate an organization’s mission and values;
  • Develop a strong understanding of the communications and events industry, including emerging trends and best practices;
  • Develop effective communication strategies for various audiences, including media outlets, stakeholders, and the public;
  • Create compelling content for various communication channels, such as social media, press releases, and blog posts.
  • Support the management of events from planning to execution, including coordinating with vendors, stakeholders, and attendees.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and stakeholders to achieve organizational goals.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills in a fast-paced work environment.
