2025 Job Offers : UNEP is hiring for the position of Associate Programme Officer

Position Details:

  • Job Title: Associate Programme Officer, INC Secretariat (Plastic Pollution)
  • Location: Nairobi, Kenya
  • Type of Contract: Fixed-term
  • Duration: Initial period of 1 year (possible extension)

Responsibilities:

  1. Planning and Coordination:
    • Assist in planning and organizing sessions for the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) on plastic pollution.
    • Coordinate logistics for meetings (including virtual platforms) and liaise with Member States and other stakeholders.
  2. Support Documentation:
    • Prepare meeting agendas, talking points, briefing materials, and various other documents.
    • Contribute to the development of reports and studies, ensuring accurate data collection and analysis.
  3. Resource Mobilization and Donor Engagement:
    • Support efforts related to resource mobilization for the INC Secretariat, maintaining strong relationships with donors and stakeholders.
  4. Research and Analysis:
    • Conduct basic research, gathering statistical data from multiple sources to aid in decision-making.
    • Provide insights on environmental issues, particularly those related to plastic pollution.
  5. Program/Project Development:
    • Work closely with clients to facilitate program implementation and evaluation, identifying challenges and recommending solutions.
  6. Outreach and Capacity Building:
    • Participate in outreach activities, including workshops and training sessions.
    • Support the organization of field missions, ensuring substantive and administrative support.
  7. Budget and Financial Coordination:
    • Assist with preparing and submitting budget reports, pledging documents, and financial statements.
  8. Data Analysis and Visualization:
    • Support data analysis, identifying trends and patterns to aid in program planning and reporting.

Competencies:

  • Professionalism: Deep understanding of environmental issues, particularly related to pollution, with the ability to analyze and resolve problems efficiently.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills, able to adjust communication styles for different audiences.
  • Planning and Organizing: Capable of setting priorities, allocating time and resources effectively, and adapting to changing situations.

Education:

  • Required: Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics, or a related field.
  • Desirable: Qualifications in data analytics, business analytics, or data science.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum: 2 years of progressively responsible experience in project/programme management, administration, or related field.
  • Desirable: Experience in environmental programs, particularly related to plastic pollution or UN environmental processes.

Languages:

  • Required: Fluent in English (oral and written).
  • Desirable: Proficiency in French and/or other UN official languages.
