The Land Resources Division (LRD) provides advice, technical assistance, research and training support to Pacific Island countries and territories on all aspects of agriculture and forestry. This includes plant protection, conservation, plant genetic resources, animal health and production, agroforestry, biosecurity and trade facilitation, and sustainable systems for agriculture, forestry and land management. This work has two objectives: improved food and nutritional security, and resilient communities. Key selection criteria 

Qualifications

  • A master’s level degree in agriculture or international development.

Technical expertise

  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in a similar role or demonstrated project management and staff supervision experience within a regional/international organisation.
  • Expertise in research and implementation of interventions in agricultural supply chains.
  • Expertise in extension and understanding of the obstacles facing smallholder farmers and development of agricultural clusters
  • Understanding of national and regional issues related to sustainable agricultural production.
  • Experience in computational and statistical tools for the management of agricultural information.
  • Demonstrated ability to publish in international peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Experience in fundraising, proposal preparation and project management.

Language skills

  • Excellent communication skills and report writing skills in English.

Qualifications

  • A degree in agriculture, project management, business administration or another relevant field.

Technical expertise

  • At least 3 years of practical experience working in agriculture or other relevant fields.
  • Good knowledge of the Vanuatu Agriculture sector and some experience with community development activities.
  • Proven project implementation experience.
  • Proven understanding and basic knowledge of value chain systems development aspects such as conservation, product development, marketing promotion, standards, and market access knowledge will be valuable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in relationship building and working with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Excellent communications and report writing skills.

Key selection criteria 

Qualifications

  • A tertiary degree in tropical agriculture or similar field.
  • Training in organic certification and tropical agriculture.

Technical expertise

  • Extensive 5-6 years relevant experience working with organic production.
  • Demonstrated experience with traditional Pacific agriculture systems.
  • Relevant work experience with certification systems/processes.
  • Understands key challenges and constraints impeding Pacific Islands access to organic value chains.
  • Experience in supporting the development of policy and provision of technical advice and support through an NGO or farmer support association.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing funding and resource proposals, raising funds, and identifying opportunities to develop strategic partnerships including experience in project design and management.
