WEF Community Engagement Early Career Programme

Application guidance for the WEF Community Engagement Early Career Programme

The positions we offer are best suited to recent graduates of a course of study, preferably at master’s level, and with at least one previous professional experience.

Conditions and benefits of the Programme

  • Full-time onsite employment contract of 6 months with the World Economic Forum Geneva office
  • We will accommodate start dates between September 1st to October 15th 2023
  • Monthly gross compensation of CHF 4’400.- (salary: CHF 4’050- plus health benefits: CHF 350-)
  • All required technological equipment (laptop and mobile phone) and accesses
  • Minimal travel support

Role 1

Centre for Nature and Climate, 1t.org Regional Community Support

The World Economic Forum’s Trillion Trees initiative (1t.org) was set up to support the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030, with the vision to conserve, restore and grow a trillion trees over this decade. 1t.org drives change by mobilizing the private sector, facilitating multi-stakeholder partnerships in key regions, and supporting innovation and ecopreneurship on the ground.

Preferred qualification and experience:

  • Broad spectrum of education background in economics, business and administration, agriculture, environmental studies, politics, international development, social sciences etc.
  • Proven record of relevant knowledge and experience, ideally with experience in agricultural value chains, international development, sustainability, community development, public affairs, business development, communication

Desired skills:

  • Project management skills, including managing complex assignments and balancing competing priorities
  • Organization, planning and coordination
  • Communications management, ensuring that event and process milestones across the design and delivery lifecycle are documented consistently and regularly shared.

Role 2

Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, AI Governance Alliance

This position is part of the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR). The C4IR helps stakeholders harness the full potential of technological progress for the equitable and human-centered transformation of industries, economies, and societies. This role within the C4IR, is for the AI Governance Alliance, announced June 2023 with a focus on responsible generative AI. The Alliance is a pioneering global multistakeholder initiative that unites industry leaders, academic institutions, civil society organizations, and governments under three pillars of work:

Champion responsible design and release of transparent and inclusive AI systems globally Uphold the responsible deployment of applied AI across various industries and sectors Co-design essential blueprints, and anticipatory governance mechanisms to contribute to a globally harmonized understanding of responsible AI

Preferred qualification and experience:

  • Experience and/or interest in Generative AI.
  • Effective in facilitating group dynamics and oriented towards participants satisfaction.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

Desired skills:

  • Organization, planning and coordination.
  • Communication skills, narrative development (English native or perfect fluency).
  • Innovative and proactive thinking, ability to think “outside the box”, offering novel solutions while understanding the environmental constraints.
  • Adaptability, capable of thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, showing, motivation, flexibility and resilience when faced with challenges.

Role 3

Centre for Nature and Climate, Climate Adaptation

The candidate will join the Climate Adaptation team in the Better Living Pillar of the Forum’s Centre for Nature and Climate. The Climate Adaptation team focuses on unlocking business action on climate adaptation and on building understanding of frontier adaptation issues, such as financial system resilience and international security.

Preferred qualification and experience:

  • University degree in field related to either business, international development, or climate.
  • A keen interest and understanding of climate issues – including the distinctions between mitigation and adaptation and the key organizations operating in the space
  • Preference to those that have worked in the climate domain, in particular in adaptation.

Desired skills:

  • Stakeholder engagement, meaning the ability to convey personal warmth both inside and outside the Forum, maintain relationships with a large number of stakeholders simultaneously.

Role 4

Centre for Urban Transformation

Cities and local governments across the globe face extraordinary challenges as they look to recover from compounding global crises and continued economic instability. To establish a foundation for more future-ready and resilient cities, the Forum has developed a Centre for Urban Transformation, a global platform for private and public sector leaders to commit expertise and resources to support cities in their path to recovery and for years to come. 

Preferred qualification and experience:

  • Master’s degree in urban development, urban design or related field preferably.
  • 1-2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in project management, community management, and strategic partnership building.
  • Subject matter expertise in the field of urban and local development, urban design and architecture.

Desired skills:

  • Organization, planning and coordination
  • Communication skills, narrative development (English native or perfect fluency)
  • Analytical and data orientation
