What is the ILO?

Founded in 1919, the International Labour Organization (ILO) is the UN agency for the world of work. Rooted in a vision of social justice, the ILO sets international standards, advances rights at work and promotes decent employment opportunities for all. The only tripartite U.N. agency, since 1919 the ILO brings together governments, employers and workers of 187 Member States , to set labour standards, develop policies and devise programmes promoting decent work for all women and men. The unique tripartite structure of the ILO gives an equal voice to workers, employers and governments to ensure that the views of the social partners are closely reflected in labour standards and in shaping policies and programmes.

Who is the ILO looking for?

The ILO seeks staff of the highest standards of professional competence, efficiency and integrity. Particular importance is given to selecting staff of diverse geographical origin, gender and age. We encourage applications from qualified women and men, including those with disabilities. The working languages of the ILO are English, French and Spanish.

Mission and impact

The main aim of the ILO are to promote rights at work, encourage decent employment opportunities, enhance social protection and strengthen dialogue on work-related issues.
