The purpose of this role is to help achieve measurable human rights impact in the region through strategic development of Chinese-language campaign and communication materials that reflect and promote Amnesty International’s goals, objectives and messages. You will ensure regional objectives, audience needs and priorities are reflected and implemented, where appropriate, at the global level, as well as provide support and advise local sections and members on communications and content production appropriate to their target audiences and Amnesty objectives.

Chinese-Language Social Media Manager

About the Candidate 

We are looking for a candidate who will manage Amnesty’s Chinese social media channels and websites, which includes the development of audio-visual assets and copy for each channel. You will have outstanding knowledge of a variety of social media and other content platforms, media organisations and the latest digital trends, keeping in mind the specific challenges of this work in the region. You will have experience working with content management software and software for digital and print such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva. An understanding of video/photo editing software would be highly desirable. You will have excellent communication skills, able to produce content in both Chinese and English, and help shape creative, gripping content that drives human rights change.   

Main Responsibilities of the Chinese-Language Social Media Manager

  • Work with the China team, in particular researchers and campaigners, to plan and execute original and reactive content, geared toward both English- and Chinese-speaking audiences. 
  • Work with researchers, campaigners and Media Managers to deliver high-quality, locally relevant communication strategies and materials in support of the regional campaign, advocacy and communication objectives.  
  • Work with colleagues in the Global Content Programme in London to help shape creative, gripping content that drives human rights change. 
  • Work with audience and engagement experts in the Global Content. Programme in London to develop effective social networks for the region that can feed into global or other regional conversations where necessary, for facilitating conversation and activism. 
  • Develop regional communications initiatives that support collaborations. between sections and the RO. Lead on communications capacity building in Sections and structures, and for all AI activists in the region; providing training and ongoing support at the level needed; from advice on appropriate content format for relevant digital channels to developing communication strategies from start to finish. 

Skills and Experience 

  • Excellent Chinese, English writing and verbal communication skills – creative and factual: excellent simplified Chinese writing skills essential, knowledge of traditional Chinese desirable. Ability to craft social media messages in Chinese to convey complex information in a straightforward, interesting and motivating manner. Fluent oral and written English highly desirable.  
  • Experience in developing content for use across multiple digital channels, languages and territories, with a solid understanding of audience needs on each. 
  • Experience managing social media channels and ability to analyse social media content.  
  • Experience of coordinating the work of different teams, setting up processes, implementing change, and understanding conflicting priorities to deliver communications solutions with collaborative work, especially under pressure.
