PROGRAM DETAILS

The Emerging Leaders for Climate Action program provides a platform for promising young leaders across sectors working on climate and sustainability issues to network and collaborate with one another to develop policy proposals by leveraging their expertise and knowledge in various sectors. The cohort’s policy recommendations will be presented during the ELCA Summit immediately preceding COP28.

Apply for U.S Based : The Emerging Leaders for Climate Action program

Over the course of 6 months, participants will leverage their expertise to collaborate with their peers across sectors to produce effective policy proposals that can inform and influence future climate policy leaders and stakeholders. The cohort will be divided into 4 thematic working groups that will converge at each core event to present their proposals for feedback.

Eligibility

  • Applicants should be able to demonstrate a strong passion for climate action, with a commitment to advancing sustainability and environmental protection.
  • Age: 35 and under
  • Time commitment: 5-10 hours/month
  • U.S based

MITIGATION:

Developing and deploying new technologies to scale renewable energy and transform agri-tech, water use, and food production. 

ADAPTION:

Protecting our most vulnerable communities and our most critical systems from extreme weather and biodiversity loss.  Ensuring global food system resiliency.

THEMATIC TRACKS

FINANCE:

Ensuring equitable access to climate finance. Increasing access to capital dollars and international financial institutions resources.

LOSS & DAMAGE:

Supporting vulnerable communities rebuild after natural disasters.  Building resiliency to the consequences that will arise from the unavoidable risks of climate change.

May – Opening Reception

The program will kick off with an in-person opening reception, where participants will have the opportunity to meet each other and key stakeholders. The event will include a panel discussion that highlights the current state of climate action and provides a call to action for the cohort of emerging leaders. 

July – Symposium 1

The first symposium will be held in a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend both in-person and virtually. The symposium will focus on discussing the challenges and opportunities in the field of climate policy. 

September – Symposium 2

The second symposium will also be held in a hybrid format and will provide participants with the opportunity to discuss and refine their ideas for innovative action and/or policy proposals. 

November – Summit

The program will culminate with an in-person summit, where participants will present their proposals and ideas to key stakeholders, including government representatives, policymakers, and industry leaders. 

Climate change is a pressing global issue that requires urgent action from all sectors. In order to effectively meet the challenges of climate change, we need the collective efforts of emerging leaders from various sectors who can bring their knowledge, expertise, and perspectives to the table. By collaborating and sharing ideas, these leaders can develop innovative and effective policy proposals that can inform and influence future climate policy leaders and stakeholders.
