The aim of the global project is for state and private actors in the partner countries Ethiopia, Benin, Cameroon, Madagascar, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire and Laos to contribute to national and international goals for the restoration of forest landscapes, the fight against poverty and sustainable rural development as well as good contribute to governance in the forest sector. 

In Benin, the country module supports the Malagasy government in its efforts to restore 500,000 hectares of degraded forest landscapes by developing and implementing strategies and measures. The central task here is to restore the ecological and productive functionality of degraded forest ecosystems, particularly with regard to their contribution to the quality and quantity of water resources. The project’s advisory services are primarily aimed at government, private sector, civil society partners and the local population. Participatory, conflict-sensitive approaches are of central importance here.

Tasks

  • Participation in advising project staff and civil society organizations with which the project cooperates on conflict-sensitive approaches (critical review of concepts and activities according to the DoNoHarm principle, organization of further training, support of studies and analyzes etc.)
  • Support in setting up and implementing conflict-sensitive monitoring (definition of indicators, regular collection of data, etc.)
  • Support the person responsible for implementing the project in various project coordination tasks (internal team events, coordination with other projects and country modules, reporting, etc.)
  • Participation in the external presentation of the Benin country module (reports, statuses, presentations, etc.)
  • Support in setting up and equipping systematic knowledge management (presentation of concepts and approaches, preparation, structuring and securing of information, etc.)

Requirements

  • Completed university studies in the field of natural resource management (forest, land, water) or conflict management – first experience abroad as part of research and study stays
  • Expertise in the area of ​​conflict-sensitive approaches, particularly in the context of resource management and forest landscape restoration, is an advantage
  • Knowledge of monitoring activities as well as knowledge management and external representation is an advantage
  • Initial experience with project management tasks as well as the ability to work in a team and strong communication and networking skills
  • Intercultural competence, resilience and communication skills at local, national and international levels
  • High adaptability to the context of the Natitingou location
  • Very good knowledge of German, French and English as well as very good writing skills
