  1. Legal Counsel

Requirements (Education, experience, technical competencies required of the job)

  • Juris Doctor, LLB, or equivalent law degree (a higher degree in law is an advantage); or a Bachelor’s degree plus additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree.
  • Qualification to practice law in at least one jurisdiction;
  • At least 9 years of relevant work experience practicing law in cross-border transactions involving debt and/or equity with a well-recognized law firm, an international financial institution and/or a development institution;
  • Experience working on novel areas of law, or innovative and/or complex financial transactions is an advantage;
  • Solid legal drafting skills specifically of drafting financing agreements;
  • Experience liaising with, and advising, senior members of staff; experience advising management is an advantage;
  • Emotional intelligence and values-driven work ethic;
  • Experience managing the work of lawyers and interns is an advantage;
  • Experience in, or working with, developing countries; and
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential for this position; knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

  • Senior Health and Climate Specialist

Requirements (Education, experience, technical competencies required of the job)

  • Master’s or higher-level degree in public health, environmental health, sustainability or related fields; or a Bachelor’s degree and 2 additional years of professional experience. 
  • 11 years or more experience in project origination, development, evaluation and management and/or financing with specific emphasis on the nexus public health and climate change. 
  • Specialization in at least two of the following mechanisms to deliver on health and climate change targets: risk/reward profiles, schemes to increase the likelihood of social impacts (i.e. of energy-related programmes), insurance and climate risk finance, public-private partnerships (i.e. for health infrastructure), resilience and vaccine bonds, climate emergency financing facilities 
  • Substantive experience in developing and implementing health-related investments in developing countries settings is required;  
  • Relevant experience in climate finance operations and process management; familiarity with the UN and multilateral setting, and knowledge of the UNFCCC and Paris Agreement; 
  • Relevant experience in economic and financial analysis;  
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment with diverse stakeholders at different technical and strategic levels– staff, Board, GCF’s independent bodies, and external stakeholders.  
  • Unquestionable integrity and adherence to the highest ethical standards.  
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills required with ability to interact with multiple internal/external stakeholders and at different levels; and 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential for this position; knowledge of another UN language would be an advantage. 
  • Candidates who meet most of the core requirements but fall short of educational or total full-time work experience, may be considered for underfill at the discretion of the hiring manager/Division Director.

  • Principal Evaluation Officer

Requirements (Education, experience, technical competencies required of the job)

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in natural resources, environment policy, communications, or evaluation; 
  • 11 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience after a Master’s degree; or bachelor degree plus two more years of experience. 
  • Significant experience with evaluations for a multilateral institution, diverse evaluation experience is essential; candidates may be asked to share samples or executive summaries of three evaluations they have led or co-led;
  • Deep experience with devising and implementing strategies for uptake and dissemination is essential; excellent vision related to communication, advocacy for high-quality evaluations and evidence and Evidence-based action and policy;
  • Expertise in methods for evaluations, in particular to strengthen IEU capacity on qualitative tools;  
  • Expertise in at least one sector related to climate change (e.g., biodiversity, livelihoods, etc.) in addition to expertise in evaluations; 
  • A strong track record of peer-reviewed publications in a relevant discipline is an advantage;
  • Experience living and working in a developing country is an advantage;
  • Experience across multiple sectors would serve well in this role that works with multiple partners; 
  • Ability to speak publicly and represent the IEU, in additional to an ability to undertake individual level engagement and advocacy on behalf of the Unit and the Head; 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and highly developed cultural sensitivity in communicating with all levels of staff and external clients, both orally and in writing; 
  • Willingness to cooperate with other staff in a team and contribute to a harmonious environment is essential; 
  • Proven ability to work innovatively within a team environment
