Internship Responsibilities: Green Recovery and Transition

As an intern with the Green Recovery and Transition team at UNDP Seoul Policy Centre, you will play a key role in supporting global environmental initiatives and policy research.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Research and Publication Support
    • Conduct research on green recovery, sustainable forestry, green economy (circular economy, energy, carbon pricing).
    • Support the production of publications related to Korea’s development experiences and global SDG initiatives.
  2. Event Coordination
    • Assist in organizing international events, including conferences, webinars, workshops, and study visits.
    • Provide logistical support, including concept notes, coordination with partners, and event preparation.
  3. Pilot Projects and Partnerships
    • Contribute to designing and implementing pilot projects to share Korea’s expertise with developing countries.
    • Document and translate materials related to knowledge exchange and triangular cooperation.
  4. Translation and Communication Support
    • Translate publications, papers, and web content between English and Korean.
    • Support communications, including website updates, social media outreach, and media presence.
  5. Administrative Support
    • Assist with day-to-day office tasks, including liaising with partners, arranging high-level visits, and offering holistic support to office operations.
  6. Ad-Hoc Tasks
    • Provide general support for any additional tasks as needed by the team (10% of time).

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Final year undergraduate or current Master’s/PhD student, or recent graduate (within 1 year) with a degree in environmental policy, environmental science, climate science, natural resource economics, energy, international studies, or related fields.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience with environmental and climate projects or policy research is a plus.
    • Knowledge of green transition, digitalization, and development issues.
    • Familiarity with basic project management and writing analytical reports is desirable.
    • Korean-English translation skills are highly valued.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Experience using digital tools such as Zoom for virtual meetings.
    • Strong communication skills (oral and written) in English; fluency in Korean is highly advantageous.

Internship Conditions:

  • Stipend:
    UNDP provides a monthly stipend (KRW 1,169,728 in 2024, subject to change) to cover living expenses. Other expenses, such as visa, travel, and accommodation, are the intern’s responsibility.
  • Visa Requirements:
    Interns must have legal permission to reside and work in South Korea. Non-Korean applicants will need to meet visa requirements.
  • Work Hours:
    Full-time internship, with flexibility for educational commitments. Interns will accrue 1.5 days of leave per month and are granted public holidays.
  • Health Insurance:
    Interns must provide proof of health insurance coverage for the duration of the internship.
