UNEP Finance Initiative Internship

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

As part of UNEP-RMB, United Nations Environment Programme –Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is a partnership between United Nations Environment and the global financial sector created in the wake of the 1992 Earth Summit with a mission to promote sustainable finance. More than 450 financial institutions, including banks, insurers, and investors, work with UN Environment to understand today’s environmental, social and governance challenges, why they matter to finance, and how to actively participate in addressing them. UNEP FI’s work also includes a strong focus on policy –by promoting country-level dialogues between finance practitioners, supervisors, regulators and policy-makers, and, at the international level, by promoting financial sector involvement in processes such as the global climate negotiations.


The UNEP Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) Internship for SDGs and Impact Programme Support is for six (6) months. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

The intern will assist with implementing UNEP FI’s work programme related to its Impact &SDGs work stream .Daily responsibilities may vary depending on the individual’s background as well as the internship period. Duties include, but are not limited to:

•Support the on-going development of the UNEP FI impact management tools, mappings and guidance materials
•Carry out research on impact definitions, indicators and metrics
•Carry out research on financial sector, corporate and sovereign impact management norms and practices, as well as relevant policies and regulation
•Assist with day-to-day coordination of communications with the UNEP FI Impact Management ‘community of practice’ (general liaison, setting up meetings)
•Help maintain the Impact & SDGs work stream’s databases and directories
•Support the production and dissemination of communication materials (mailings, webinars, ppts, flyers, etc.)
•Help maintain the SDGs and Impact web pages and social media presence
•Assist with the preparations for meetings and events
•Assist with other tasks as relevant.

Client orientation: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be “clients” and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view. Establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect. Identifies clients’ needs and matches them to appropriate solutions. Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients’ environment to keep informed and anticipate problems. Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

Education

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French, Spanish, and Arabic is desirable
