Climate Nexus is hiring a Climate and Health Contractor ($50,000-60,000 compensation)

Objective:

Climate Nexus is working with partners to build more appreciation for the intersections between health and climate change, particularly in the context of international climate policy discussions. This grant-supported work will focus on leveraging key events and scientific reports to build buzz and generate more conversation around climate and health in advance of and during COP 28. 

Contract Terms:

Temporary, Full-Time, August 2023-February 2024

Scope of Work:

Deliverables for this work will include:

• Monitoring the climate and health conversation: Set up and utilize Cision and Google News searches to monitor media coverage on climate change on health to identify new research, emerging impacts and any oppositional framing. Use comparable tools to monitor high-level themes in digital conversations pertaining to climate change and health to identify changes, trending topics, and influencers. 
• Communications strategy, media relations, and outreach to partners and experts: Communications strategy implementation linked to the release of new health and climate change research, policy developments and narrative priorities. Tasks will include:
  • Drafting communications materials (media pitches, press releases, digital media materials, messages, opeds)
  • Identifying and connecting with reporters and editors in priority geographies covering climate change and health. 
• Social media content development: Distill the findings of select reports and events and circulate suggested messaging and social copy to circulate with partners. 
• Climate and health material production: Research and create communications products that distill complex climate and health research for expert and non-expert audiences.
• Event planning: Support planning, promotion and execution of virtual and in-person events.

Required skills:

• At least 5 years of strategic communications experience, including pitching reporters, developing feature story ideas, drafting op-eds, message development, and rapid response.
• Subject matter knowledge of the links between public health and climate change science and policy.
• Project management experience, ability to meet deliverables across multiple projects simultaneously
• Understanding of the role that racial, social, and economic inequities play in how health impacts are experienced across different countries and groups. 
• Translate complex subject-matter into approachable content for different audiences.

Compensation: The targeted compensation range for this work is $50,000-60,000 for a 6-month period.
