Remote Climate Finance Campaigner Job at Stand.earth ($ 57500-75000 per year)

We are working with a network of allied organizations in a large coalition to force pensions to divest from coal, oil and gas companies that are destroying the planet and violating Indigenous rights, and to step up investments in just and equitable climate solutions, including renewables. We are driving pension funds to leverage their institutional investor might, and more than $3 trillion in assets for good, including cleaning up their private and public equity and fixed income investments. If you love challenging corporate power and up for a battle in the halls of power and money, then read on!

We encourage applicants to apply by June 25, 2023. This position is open until filled.

About Stand.earth

Stand.earth is a nonprofit environmental organization working to create a world where respect for people and the environment comes first. Our campaigns challenge destructive corporate and governmental practices, demand accountability, and create solutions that support all of us – and the environment and climate upon which we depend.

Stand’s strategic approach and fierce determination have yielded extraordinary results: Since 2000, we’ve secured the protection of 65 million acres of wilderness, shifted billions of dollars of corporate purchasing toward responsible options, transformed the environmental practices of more than 100 major U.S. corporations, and supported the divestment of over $650 billion in assets from fossil fuels. Stand.earth operates in the United States and Canada.

Stand recognizes and respects the sovereignty of First Nations, as well as the rights of Indigenous Peoples and frontline communities. These communities are often first and most directly impacted by environmental pollution and climate change, and they provide critical leadership in developing solutions.

Pollution, climate change, and corporations’ bad behavior disproportionately hurts the most marginalized people in society – including people of color, people from working class backgrounds, people with disabilities, women and LGBTQ+ people. To develop transformative solutions, these communities must be centered in the work we do. Hence, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other historically marginalized communities. If you require assistance applying to this opportunity, please contact equalopportunity@stand.earth.

Please apply with a cover letter and resume after seeing the full scope of work.

The Position

Reporting to the Senior Climate Finance Strategist, the Climate Finance Campaigner will work closely with the Senior Climate Finance Strategist and other team members to advance our Climate Finance Program strategy in the US, focused on Pension Funds and Private Equity. This position will craft and implement campaign strategies, communicate through traditional and digital channels with key audiences, coordinate with allies and partners, and play a coordination and support role in movement building within the Climate Safe Pensions Network.

The Climate Safe Pensions Network, which includes more than 20 local pension campaigns, will play a crucial role in addressing fossil fuel exposed private equity (PE) firms as pensions are their biggest customers. This position will partially work to create a new stream of work within the network on this issue.

The Climate Finance Campaigner will work closely with our Communications and Digital teams, and must have a strong interest and commitment to Stand.earth’s values including our work to decolonize and further our Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion programme and organizational goals.

Stand.earth is a safe and inclusive workplace for people of all backgrounds and walks of life. We strongly encourage you to apply if you are from a marginalized or underrepresented identity particularly in the Climate Finance movement.

If you believe this is a role you will be excited to work in everyday and you want to be a part of a culture like ours and will be excited about personal and professional growth, please apply.

BIPOC staff are available for conversations on team and organizational culture and experiences working on the Climate Finance team.
