Functional Responsibilities

The incumbent shall carry out following main duties:

 Coordination and portfolio monitoring & management

  • Contribute to FLS in overall review, assessment of all available updated info and examine gaps, as required
  • On UNSDCF related processes, provide inputs in the analysis and interpretation of the situation, following a recommendation, regarding UNIDO engagement and participation in the CCA, UNSDCF and processes;
  • Provide substantive inputs to field to ensure UNIDO is well positioned in the CCA, UNSDCF processes related documents in predominantly NRA status locations;
  • Coordinate, follow up as required, and closely monitor the status at the country, regional and global level for portfolio reporting and strategy development including prioritization of UNIDO engagement in close cooperation with GLO/RFO and with ODG/SPU at the corporate level.
  • Draft inputs on any internal as well as external related requests including for reporting of results related to UNIDO engagement in the UNDS reform at the field level
  • Facilitate the accumulation and compilation of related data and provide analysis, as required, in particular on UNSDCF, country programmes and joint programmes
  • Support FLS division undertaking, activities link to UN reform in particular UNIDO field reform exercise such as planned survey to all UNRCs on UNIDO engagement at the field level, capacity building activities for a better understanding of work in the field, esp. in process of UNDS reform.

Overall administrative guidance – operational elements, including Business Operations Strategy (BOS) engagement

  • Participate in BOS and other UN efficiency agenda related meetings and coordinate with relevant RBs, FOs, as needed.
  • Provide guidance to UNIDO personnel in the field and at HQ related to UN Reform.
  • Analyze and support current implementation including substantive inputs on the proposed way forward, actions, recommendations following UNIDO internal review-BOS 2.0 i.e. implications to field operations.
  • Contribute in facilitating FLS strategic advice to the field by providing thorough data analysis and substantive inputs

Country Programming

  • Coordinate, follow up inputs with Regional Bureaus, as required for overall portfolio monitoring and reporting
  • Contribute in the formulation of new policy, guidelines and implementation following the approved strategic direction on country programming.
  • Devise or provide inputs in overall improvement of portfolio monitoring mechanisms, workflows and reporting for effective and efficient implementation of the new unified country programming modality.
  • Provide guidance on country programming to UNIDO personnel in the field and at HQ.

Others

  • Perform any other duties and assignments related to project execution and coordination, as required by GLO/FLS.

Minimum Organizational Requirements

Education:

Advanced university degree in engineering, sciences, economics, business administration, international relations or other relevant social science discipline, is required.

Technical and Functional Experience:

  • At least three (3) years practical experience in the field of external relations and the UN system, networking and advocacy as well as substantive areas in UNIDO’s work is required.
  • Ability to research and analyse information is required.
  • Exposure to the needs, conditions and problems in developing countries is required. 

Languages:

Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Fluency and/or working knowledge of another official UN language, particularly French, Arabic or Spanish is desirable.
