The UNICEF Iraq Internship Programme offers students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain hands-on and direct practical experience working closely with experienced UNICEF staff. As an intern, you will get learning opportunities in the development sector in an international and multicultural setting and a meaningful internship experience that will support your academic, professional and personal development.

We work in at the areas of Health and Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Education, Child Protection, Adolescent Development and Social Policy and Evidence. We also offer opportunities in other functions, such as External Relations and Partnerships, as well as in Management and Operations, such as ICT, Finance and Administration, Supply Management and Human Resources.

What you will gain (purpose of the internship):

What we offer:

  • A clear terms of reference outlining roles and responsibility in a practical work assignment or special project linked to the work of UNICEF;
  • An orientation session for newcomers to UNICEF, introducing important organizational topics designed to integrate new staff into the organization;
  • Sessions on career development and employment opportunities in the UN system;
  • A flexible start date from 1 July 2023;
  • Assignments in Baghdad, Basra, Dohuk or Erbil;
  • An internship assignment between 3 to 6 months;
  • UNICEF provides a monthly stipend to interns.

Do you meet the requirements?

  • I am enrolled in a university degree programme in an undergraduate, graduate school or be a recent university graduate (you have graduated within the last two years);
  • I am studying in the following fields:
    • International development, human rights, education, economics, statistics, public health, public administration, water and sanitation engineering, psychology, sociology, international law, or another social science field, or;
    • Communication, journalism or public relations, or;
    • Business administration, finance, supply chain management, information technology or human resources;
  • I have strong academic performance as demonstrated by recent university records or by a reference letter from an academic supervisor;
  • I have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working with UNICEF;
  • I have knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications including MS Office (Excel, Powerpoint, Word);
  • I am fluent in English.
